The Department provides obstetrical and gynecological services to SUM Hospital.  Regular antenatal and postnatal clinics are run by the department with facilities for ultrasound and electronic foetal monitoring.  Special gynecological services include  microtubal surgery, laparoscopic video-endoscopy besides conventional  surgery. The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology , we offer Assisted Reproduction Unit and Post Partum Centre& run seven Rural Maternity Child Health Centres. We have kept ourselves abreast of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and have made them available to patients. We also offer specialized care in high risk pregnancies, cancer detection . Diagnostic and Therapeutic ultrasound and doppler facilities are made available to the patients. Routine antenatal ultrasound is done to diagnose the pregnancy and to monitor the fetal growth. All fetal growth parameters are standardised and computerised to minimise the human error and to obtain comparative results. Doppler ultrasound is specifically offered to high risk patients to detect earliest changes in fetus and mother. Also almost all congenital anomalies are detected by USG. Special operative endoscopy (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy) has revolutionised the management of infertility and gynaecological cases. A well equipped endoscopic surgical unit is giving facilities for operative work. Apart from regular Obstetrics and Gynaecology clinical services, we offer Assisted Reproduction Unit and Post Partum Centre of 'A Grade' and run seven Rural Maternity Child Health Centres. We have kept ourselves abreast of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and have made them available to patients. We also offer specialized care in high risk pregnancies.

Post Partum Centre
The Post Partum Centre, attached to the department of obstetrics and gynaecology,institute of Medical Sciences & Sum Hospital, has been functioning . Educational activities, motivational work have been continuosly done in the area. This centre is also actively involved in the training of Anganwadi workers, doctors, and paramedical staff Under RCH Prograame..

Registration of antenatal cases

Rendering antenatal, natal and postnatal services.

Attending all emergency cases through a flying squad from the main Hospital.

Providing domiciliary services

Conducting female sterilizations.

Immunisation services Conducting in service training programme for the nurses. High risk pregnancies are selected and further treatment is done in the Hospital The treatment is free of cost for these patients under the 'Green Card' system There is a Flying Squad Ambulance system for bringing patients to the Hospital.
