This department performs the difficult task of introducing the fresh undergraduate students into the complex anatomy and structure of the human body, through lectures, tutorials, practical experiments, dissections and use of museum facilities. The anatomy museum has a large collection of specimens of Osteology, gross anatomy and embryology. At present in conformity with the latest advances in imaging techniques and emphasis on a section on cross sectional anatomy is being added so that the students can correlate with the actual anatomy. The foundations of human anatomy are thus laid in this preclinical department allowing a smooth transition into the para-clinical & clinical years.
It is spacious with Dissection hall, Histology Lab, Research Lab, Museum & Demo room with well equipped audio visual teaching aids. There is large collection of Dissected specimen ,drive bone sets, X-ray etc
Facilities:
Dissection Hall:
The 5000 sq.ft clean and brightly-lit hall ensures adequate space for cadaver dissection feats and learning. The cadavers preserved in formalin tanks are washed and laid out for dissection. We also have specimens for projection which are used both for demonstration and self study by the students.
Mummified bodies and illustrative charts are displayed for teaching surface anatomy of different organs.
Revolving X-ray lobbies is displayed for learning X-rays, MRI and CT Scans.
The disarticulated skeleton and articulated skeleton are also made available for the students during their routine dissection hours. The dissection hall also has a student contributory library ensuring ready availability of reference books for students and faculty. |
Histology Laboratory:
The department has a fully equipped histology unit spread over an area of 3000 sq.ft. There are individual microscopes for students and a binocular CCTV for projection of slides for teaching.
Colored printouts of labeled microanatomy sections are displayed for ready reference for the students during the routine practical sessions.
The lab is also equipped with tissue processing instruments, for making slides for the purpose of teaching.
The department also caters to the need of microanatomy slides to various other medical, dental colleges and other institutions all over India. |
Computer and Internet facility:
The department is increasingly utilizing computer imaging techniques, and three-dimensional facilities for teaching undergraduate students. As the use of computer assisted learning in teaching is strongly encouraged, the department has 8 computer terminals equipped with internet connection, scanner and printer for the staff and
postgraduates. |
