The department runs a regional blood bank to serve our hospital as well as all the near by small hospitals and nursing homes. On an average about 20 units of blood are collected daily and issued to these hospitals either as whole blood or as blood components. Units of blood not used within 25 days are used as a source for preparing of human plasma. The blood bank also prepares and provides various blood components like washed RBCs, platelet concentrates and leukocyte preparations.
